TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Up to Monday night there has been 1,717 lecturers from 31 universities declaring their opposition against the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Law revision.

“There will be more universities and lecturers who will join this effort tomorrow, [the support] will continue to grow,” said Gajah Mada University (UGM) lecturer Rimawan Pradiptyo on Monday, who coordinated this effort through a Whatsapp group called the national academic alliance.

Based on the records Tempo received yesterday, the majority of votes rallying against the revision of the law mostly come from UGM with 259 lecturers signing. Support also came from 283 lecturers of the Indonesian Islamic University (UIN), and 116 lecturers from University of Indonesia (UI).

Support also came from other universities such as the Bogor Institute of Agriculture (IPB), Andalas University, Mulawarman University, Nahdlatul Ulama Indonesia University, Hasanuddin University, Sebelas Maret State University, Airlangga University, Bandung Institute of Technology, and the University of Padjajaran.

There are 18 more universities in the list of lecturers joining the declaration of opposition against the revision of the KPK Law that was first introduced in 2002. The lecturers collectively agree that the house of Representatives (DPR) is opening a door to cripple the anti-graft agency that managed to arrest more than dozens of corruptors in the past year alone.
